Great Researchers

Article Outline

On October 25, the University of Kentucky Gluck Equine Research Foundation will induct four equine scientists into the Equine Research Hall of Fame. The Equine Research Hall of Fame honors distinguished researchers who have dedicated their careers to equine science.

After inducting these four scientists, there will be 23 scientists that have been bestowed with this prestigious recognition by their peers. They are nominated by peers and colleagues throughout the world. Inductees are selected by past Hall of Fame members.

Dr. Douglas F. Antczak of Cornell University, Dr. I.G. Joe Mayhew of Massey University, Dr. Alan J. Nixon of Cornell University and Dr. Peter Timoney of UK's Gluck Equine Research Center were selected for induction this year.

These four inductees represent a variety of disciplines. Antczak has spent the past 30 years conducting research on equine immunology, genetics and reproduction. Mayhew has focused his research on neurological disorders in horses. Nixon has made significant contributions in the area of musculoskeletal injury and repair as well as regenerative medicine. Timoney has been an icon at the Gluck Center since 1983 and has focused his research on equine infectious diseases, particularly equine viral arteritis, contagious equine metritis and equine herpesvirus.

Collectively, they have made a major contribution to equine research. The induction ceremony for these four individuals will occur at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky.

Please take the opportunity to congratulate these four scientists for their tremendous contributions to the equine industry.
