February Editorial

Article Outline

As you might know, editorials are written 2 months before they appear in the journal. It is a week before Christmas, and I am reflecting on the events of 2008 and the plans for 2009.

The last quarter of each year and first quarter of the new year is always the busiest time for veterinary meetings. We just finished a very successful West Coast Equine Reproduction Symposium and AAEP Convention. Although I was able to see many of the JEVS authors and reviewers and thank them personally, I would like to thank all the rest that I was unable to see. No doubt because of the economy and subsequently the health of the horse industry, 2009 may be one of our most challenging years.

Jim Orsini, the associate editor, Tony Trioli of Elsevier, and I met at AAEP and developed plans for 2009. I am fortunate to work with these two men because of their innovative thinking and positive attitude. Those two characteristics are ingredients for success.

I always enjoy the time between Christmas and New Year because it may be the only slow time of the year, except possibly for the house decorating duties required by my wife.

Hope you are having a happy new year.
