Article Outline

The Equine Science Society (ESS) has the mission of promoting quality research on equine nutrition and physiology. This group of researchers, teachers, extension personnel, and production companies meets every 2 years to exchange information regarding equine nutrition, exercise physiology, and reproductive physiology.

Beginning in January 2009, the Journal of Equine Veterinary Science will act as the official journal for the ESS. This is particularly gratifying to me because I have been a member of ESS for many years, and have served on the Board and as President of the Society.

As the official journal of the Society, Journal of Equine Veterinary Science will publish proceedings from meetings of the ESS, along with other original articles that are presented from this group throughout the year. This is a natural fit, because many of the articles that we currently publish in JEVS are submitted by members of ESS. We hope that this relationship with the ESS will increase the number of quality submissions to the Journal and allow ESS members an outlet for their research findings that is available to both the practitioner and the equine scientist.

The next ESS meeting will be held in spring 2009 in Keystone, Colorado. As part of the arrangement with JEVS, the ESS will have a page within each issue to allow them to promote Society activities. We look forward to seeing a schedule for the upcoming meeting in 2009.

We are grateful to the Equine Science Society Board for selecting the Journal of Equine Veterinary Science as their official journal.
