Article Outline

I have often heard the saying, “Good things happen to those who wait.” I have been working diligently and waiting patiently for JEVS to “take off.” Recently, a decision was made by Elsevier that will help me achieve this goal: Clinical Techniques in Equine Practice and the Journal of Equine Veterinary Science will combine on January 2008. The unique features of each will join to create a single excellent publication with the potential to become the premier equine veterinary journal in North America.

With this combination, Jim Orsini, from the University of Pennsylvania and Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Techniques in Equine Practice, has agreed to be Associate Editor for JEVS and to head up a new section on Clinical Procedures. Dr. Orsini will feature 2−3 articles on clinical procedures in each issue of JEVS. Initially, this section will feature invited papers on topics such as Advances in Laparoscopy, Complementary Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology, Equine Emergency and Rescue, and Equine Orthopedics. We also encourage submission of original articles on clinical procedures for inclusion in JEVS beginning January 2008. Other featured sections of the Journal will include Original Research, Case Studies, Invited Reviews, Book Reviews, Short Communications, Viewpoint, What's News, Current Research, Calendar of Events, and Featured Equine Facility.

We are confident that combining these two journals will result in an international publication of the highest quality. The Clinical Procedures section will allow us to include articles of great relevance to equine practitioners and equine researchers. Dr. Orisini brings a tremendous amount of experience as a researcher, clinician, and editor. I am extremely fortunate to have such a well-respected veterinarian and scientist join the ranks as Associate Editor of JEVS. Dr. Orsini and I are enthusiastic, dedicated, and share similar goals for JEVS. We are grateful that Elsevier supported this important change and provided the resources to make it a reality.
